The J. L. Peters Funeral Home located at 3880 Fort Street in Lincoln Park was built in 1949 by Joseph L. Peters. The funeral home was purchased in 1970 by Peter J. Walsh, and is currently owned and operated by Daniel P. Walsh and family. Peter J. Walsh was previously the original owner of a funeral home in Indian River, Michigan. While living in Indian River, Mr. Walsh was a key contributor in the building of a large Catholic shrine known as the 'Cross in the Woods'. Later, he co-owned the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac, Michigan with his brother Bob Walsh, who was also a licensed funeral director. In 1970, after purchasing J. L. Peters Funeral Home, Mr. Walsh relocated with his family to the downriver area. The family consisted of his wife Martha and their seven children. Daniel P. Walsh is currently a proud fourth generation funeral director. He and his wife Lisa are the current owners of J. L. Peters Funeral Home, after purchasing the business from his father in 1990. Daniel P. Walsh has expanded the facility, which today consists of four beautiful chapels and most recently an expanded refreshment room, with everything on one main floor. He continues with the tradition of providing caring service to the Downriver community into the new generation. Our commitment is to provide you and your loved ones with guidance and personal service during difficult times. As always, we continually strive for new and modern ways to serve our families and respond to changing needs and concerns, while maintaining traditional values that we have always upheld. We are proud to be a part of our downriver community.
