Goss Funeral Services, the parent company of Spears Funeral Home and Kidder Memorial Home is owned and operated by Adam and Callie (Lumbra) Goss. Adam & Callie both have deep family roots in the area; Adam is the son of Thomas Goss and Kelly (Jackson) Bailey, Callie is the daughter of Craig & Joan (Clark) Lumbra. They bought Spears Funeral Home from Thomas & Deborah Cook in March of 2017. The Cook family owned and operated the funeral home for 15 years and Tom has been an employee at Spears Funeral Home since 1984. In September of 2017 Spears Funeral Home merged with Kidder Memorial Home to form Goss Funeral Services. Arthur Goodhue owned and operated Kidder Memorial Home for 15 years and was an employee since 1981. Prior to the Cook's purchase of the funeral home in 2002, it was owned and operated by the Spears family. William 'Billy' Spears Jr. ran the funeral home from 1979 until 2002; his grandfather, George Spears and father, William Spears Sr. founded the Spears Funeral Home in 1955. Kidder Memorial Home was founded in 1975 by Wesley Kidder. Before Spears Funeral Home opened, George Spears worked for Gibson's Funeral Home. When the Gibson family decided to sell their business, George purchased the inventory and Spears Funeral Home was born. Gibson's Funeral Home was founded in 1892. The longest running funeral provider in Franklin County, Spears Funeral Home, is now under the ownership of it's 4th different family. The relationships started by the Gibson's in the late 1800's have been passed on through the past century by the Spears, Cook and Goss families. A key part to the success of Spears Funeral Home is the smooth transition of leadership; each owner has started out as an employee. Relationships built and maintained over the years have been a significant contributor in the success of Spears Funeral Home, Kidder Memorial Home, and Goss Funeral Services. The merger of Spears Funeral Home and Kidder Memorial Home wll strengthen both businesses and ensure that families of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties will continue to receive the highest level of service for years to come.

New Castle. Newark. Delaware City. Middletown. Four opportunities to serve families in New Castle County. Four locations. One big heart. Spicer-Mullikin is a family-owned funeral home and since 1906, we have comforted families by creating personalized, meaningful memorial ceremonies that celebrate the life of a loved one. Every year since 2015, Spicer-Mullikin has received the prestigious Pursuit of Excellence Award recognizing professionalism and integrity in our profession, presented by the National Association of Funeral Directors (NFDA). In 2017, we were nominated as the Best of the Best in America by our NFDA peers. In 2018, we were particularly proud to be named recipients of the inaugural 2018 Richard Myers Pinnacle Award. This was no small honor. Spicer-Mullikin is one of the few funeral homes in Delaware to employ a dedicated professional grief specialist for post-service care. Our service reflects your love. In 1906, William E. Haines opened his funeral home in Wilmington. It was later purchased by John W. Spicer, and then merged with a funeral home owned by James Mullikin. For many years we maintained three locations: Wilmington, New Castle (Wilmington Manor) and Delaware City. The Wilmington location was then sold and we purchased a facility in Newark. Harvey Smith, Jr. and Frank Mayer, Jr. purchased Spicer-Mullikin in 1968 and operated the business for more than 40 years. The current owner, Harvey's son Matthew C. Smith, continues the company's century-old tradition of compassionate, dignified service.
